Anticipation

I admit I don't have much of a garden at the moment but it still manages to bring me joy. Right now I am waiting for my crab cactus to bloom. Every day the little buds get a tiny bit bigger and I try not to wish their short lives away as my impatience for them to bloom grows.

They always remind me of my Dad who loved crab cactus and had many varieties. They grow very easily from a cutting although they are slow growing. He used to like to plant several different colours in the one basket so as to create an amazing show when they bloom. He did a similar thing with frangapani trees, planting two varieties quite close to each other so they would intertwine and look like one amazing multicolour tree.

I am lucky my crab cactus  usually blooms twice for me. It must like the spot...because it certainly isn't because of attention.

Hope you all have a lovely day.

  1. What a great idea - planting different colours in the one pot. Our Dads are the best!

I know what you mean by impatience waiting for something to bloom. I love those crab cacti. I didn't even know that is what they were called!

  4. My ex mother in law has a green thumb with most things and has the most glorious display of these in hanging baskets. Hers have almost finished flowering but we are down south. Seeing things blossom in the garden is one of the great simple joys in life. Enjoy your cactus when they bloom. :)

  7. Crab Cactus? That's a new name to me. My mom always called them Christmas Cacti...because they bloomed around Christmas. (Even those that bloomed in the spring...around Easter...were called "Christmas".) I cannot wait to tell her this new name. It's really fitting...
