The things you do for Love ~ antique doctors cabinet & 50's pots

Those of you who come regularly to theoldboathouse or follow our ebay auctions will know that when we say "we love anything old and interesting" we are not kidding....with this comes lots of fun, lots of hard work and lots and lots and lots of good "stuff" that needs to find a new life and new home. It also means Kristen cannot go anywhere without coming home with something. Last night he was sent off with son Number 2, Chauncy, to attend a Japanese information night about Chauncy's much anticipated trip to Japan. He came home with these......

1950's cement garden pots... LOVE, LOVE

Some great shapes..... very heavy!
This morning he said he would just go back to the old house and have a look around...it seemed pretty empty in the dark, but the older couple who were moving said he was most welcome (music to Kristen's ears...he doesn't have to be asked twice) and you never know...I was thinking please don't come home with anything else....my house, yard, will burst....But ohhh.... lovely I was so happy he did. He came home with this.....

Just the kind of thing that makes my heart sing. An old metal and glass doctors cabinet on castors with all its glass shelves and perfect old paint that is all worn with rust etc etc.....YUM. Now alot of people will say "Katherine you get so many beautiful pieces of old furniture why would you like that???" I cannot really explain it is LOVE.....unrational, unconditional and all about LUST and why I can never do any other job.
Not sure what I will do with her yet or even if she will be mine or some other wonderful, crazy persons that loves industrial chic. I apologise the pics aren't that good under my house. I wanted to get it in before I smashed some of the glass.
I can see it in a kitchen or bathroom or it would make an amazing display cabinet for a collection. To contact please email boathome@bigpond.net.au
We also have some more auctions going up on ebay tonight...so don't forget to have a look... click here

  10. Katherine, I totally get it!! It's finds like this that keep you going I'm sure. But those pots are just as fabulous. My grandparents gave me some similar when they had to move out of their house. The rectangle type is now full of succulents. Your ones are so interesting though, shapes and colours. That cabinet is amazing. It's as though it's come straight from Anthropologie! My boys would think it a perfect display for lego!! A trip to Japan, lucky Chauncy! Pruxxx

  16. Totally get the LUST bit, Katherine. It's wonderful when you see something and you just know you HAVE TO HAVE IT!!! Fabulous cabinet!! Industrial chic, yay. I've been looking for an old printers/architects draw unit. Found one in Melbourne on ebay. Bit to big and heavy to transport to NSW. Would have cost much more than the draw unit. Had to let the lust die down on that one!...Terese
