Mothers Day - ' Dear Mother I am prisoner of war '

While a lot of us Mums will be getting cards this Sunday, imagine getting this postcard in the mail. What pain that mother must have felt reading it. I love the larconic way "Bill" tells his mother about his situation. I think once Aussie men were like this but perhaps not so much anymore.
Happily from some other letters I found with this postcard I can report that 3 years later Bill made it back to Australia still it would seem, from the tone of his letters, acting like it was all water off a ducks back... 'I have lost weight but not to worry' etc.
Both the postcard pictured above and some photos aswell as the later letters are for sale right now on ebay, you can find them by clicking here and here.

Old Estate house found today in the rain

Kristen was driving past this house this morning on the way to Carindale shopping centre to buy some much needed new shirts and shorts when he noticed it had sold and some folks in the yard were moving some older items into their cars.
Well he did not come home with any new clothes but he did come home with lots of old items some of the furniture we will be listing on ebay tonight.
Problem though, he come home with his clothes extremely dirty and ringing wet and he had only a few clean items to change into.
This is no reflection on the washing and ironing in my house.
It is a reflection that everytime Kristen goes off to buy much needed new clothes he finds some excuse, when he comes home, to explain how he never made it to the shops.
Normally I just roll my eyes but going on the quality of the huge cedar desk directly above I will take him at his word today.
You can see all these items for auction right now on ebay by clicking here

Friday Favourite ~ German VASES and POTS

The hard thing when you love all things vintage is finding a style that is really you. I love a little bit of every era and this can be quite a design challenge in a small house. In my lounge room I pretty much have a mid century vibe and in here I can go crazy with my love for German Pottery particularly those made by company Scheurich - Keramik. They were very prolific producing an amazing amount of stuff including lamps and so on and the great thing is they are really economical and interesting pieces. Small vases retail for around $16 and large pots and vases around the $100 depending on rarity, colour etc. I naturally don't keep all I come across and prefer the reds, oranges and brown colours. Thanks to the lovely Anita at Fun and VJs I now fondly call them my "ugly vases". The term "ugly", devised by Anita, is used to describe all the fun, totally non girly but absolutely wonderful, mid century goodies that are so ugly they are fabulous. Every home needs a bit of UGLY I say.
